Frequently Asked Questions

What will be covered in a phone consultation?

The initial phone consultation is approximately 15-minutes and at no-cost to you. You will speak with the Intake Coordinator to identify some of your therapy goals, talk about what you're looking for in a therapist, what the clinic can offer and of course, match you with a therapist.

What can I expect from our initial sessions?

The first 1 to 2 sessions will be focussed on getting to know each other, while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges you would like to address, what you want to achieve from the therapy, and agreeing on how we are going to work together, the treatment plan.

  • Therapists will be complete a brief biopsychosocial assessment which includes things like family history, medical history, lifestyle, emotional/mental health history, interpersonal history, traumas or significant losses, education and career history, and support systems.

  • Therapists will prepare a case formulation which includes understanding the presenting problem(s), triggers, current coping strategies, the impact of the problem(s) on various areas in your life.

  • You may be provided with clinical assessment questionnaires to better asses symptoms, experiences.

How do you determine the therapeutic approach that's right for me?

At MindMatters Psychotherapy, we tailor the treatment plans to the clients' unique and individual needs, and are here to support and guide you through the process of understanding your social, emotional, and mental health profiles. This will be determined in the first 1-2 sessions.

What is the time commitment for therapy?

Length of therapy is mutually agreed upon and based on our assessment, your goals and life circumstances. You will have regular check-ins with your therapist on therapeutic progress to ensure therapy is achieving the goals you sought out to achieve. At any point, time commitment can be extended for continued growth or decreased if you feel like you were able to reap the rewards of the therapeutic process.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you are asked to provide 24 hours notice by email, phone, or voicemail. If you miss an appointment without cancelling or cancel with less than 24-hour notice, the policy is to collect the full amount of your payment before or at the beginning of your next session.

Is therapy covered by insurance?
